Dear Parent/Guardian:

 

We have recently been made aware that a Level 2 sex offender (moderate risk of reoffense) is living on North Toll Street in the Village of Scotia. Further information detailing what the levels indicate is available to you electronically and by phone through the Sex Offender Registry. We are attaching a flyer from the New York State Criminal Justice Department that provides information about the Sex Offender Registry and access to information.

 

We have notified school principals, instructional staff, security personnel, and building and transportation staff members to make them aware of this individual. We have also contacted the Village of Scotia Police Department and the Town of Glenville Police Department to let them know we are notifying families.

 

Though we are sharing this information regarding a known offender, it is important that we remember to stress safety strategies with our children that will enable them to deal with both known and unknown situations. As a precautionary measure, we suggest that you talk with your children and remind them to follow these basic safety rules:

 

• Be cautious of strangers.
• Keep a safe distance from cars.
• Stay away from a car when a stranger is asking for information.
• Stay in groups and do not walk alone.
• Report any unusual events to your parents and the school principal.

 

We are always concerned about the safety of our students. It is our goal to provide you with accurate information as well as resources available to you if you choose to seek additional information.
