Break of Reality – a rock band featuring
cellists and a percussionist with no vocalist – to perform during
Spirit Week concert at S-G High School
Rock/classical band will perform for 1,000 students at 1 p.m. on Tuesday,
Oct. 9; music students to meet with band members later
Thousands of toes and fingers will be tapping during an in-school classical
concert by the renowned Break of Reality band at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct.
9, at the Senior High School, Sacandaga Road.
Band members will meet in a workshop with high school music students after
the concert, from 1:55-2:29 p.m., to talk about their techniques and answer
questions.
The band is made up for former Eastman School of Music students and is
unique because it is one of the only rock bands that does not feature
a vocalist, guitarist, or bassist in its lineup. It features three cellists
and a percussionist who "combine the beauty of classical music with
the energy and chaos of rock," according to the band's web site,
BreakofReality.com.
Break of Reality has released two independent albums—Voiceless (2004)
and The Sound Between (2006)—which have sold thousands of copies
in the United States and around the world.
Spirit week will feature several other student-run programs:
• Tuesday, Oct. 9: Coat Drive for City Mission
in small gym until 8 a.m.; "Break of Reality" concert at 1 p.m.
• Wednesday, Oct. 10: Hall Decoration after school;
faculty band playing at 2:30 p.m. outside of the main entrance
• Thursday, Oct. 11: Halls Decorated with class
themes & colors
• Friday, Oct. 12: Pep Rally period 9; winning
class announced; Football Game at 7 p.m.; Homecoming Dance after game
Pennies will be collected every day outside the cafeteria. The National
Honor Society is collecting the pennies for two items: to adopt a needy
family for food and gifts at the holidays and to fund the NHS induction
ceremony and reception in the spring.
