State Department of Education hearing about the future of Capital Region BOCES to be held on Aug. 27 at Mohonasen High School A public hearing will be held by the state Department of Education will be held from 7– 9 p.m. on Monday, August 27 at the Mohonasen High School auditorium. When BOCES Superintendent Barbara Nagler retired earlier this year, a state-required process was triggered in which other agencies or adjoining BOCES' may request a change in the boundaries or status of the BOCES in which the superintendent is retiring. That led to a request by the Otsego-Northern Catskills (ONC) BOCES that the four Schoharie County school districts now in the Capital Region BOCES - Cobleskill-Richmondville, Middleburgh, Sharon Springs and Schoharie – be transferred to the ONC BOCES. The Rockefeller Institute was hired by the state Department of Education to conduct a study of the situation and make a recommendation to state Education Commissioner Richard Mills. The institute has completed its study of the possible reorganization of the Capital Region BOCES. The primary recommendation contained in the report is to retain the sole supervisory district of Albany, Schoharie, Schenectady and Saratoga counties as currently constituted.
