The latest information from
the financial advisors provides the Board of Education with two options:
• a proposed $27.778 million project that would include construction
of a new library at the high school and conversion of the current library
into art classrooms and an art gallery, expansion from three to four middle
school science labs, enclosure of the middle school library, new roofs
on the elementary schools (except Glendaal, which was done last summer),
replacement of the 10-year-old computer/telephone servers and network,
rehabilitation of the 30-year-old family and consumer science classrooms
at the middle school; upgrades to the 50-year-old technology education
classrooms at the high school, installation of an all-sport synthetic
turf field and new running track, installation of solar energy panels
on Sacandaga Elementary School as well as other projects that have been
discussed since the spring.
That option would increase taxes by an estimated 1.99 percent, phased
in during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years. On a Glenville assessment
of $160,000, the average in the school district, taxes would increase
by a maximum of $62.40 per year or $5.20 per month based on the current
tax rate.
